Xin Li is a producer and director born and raised in China. After she earned her degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, Xin became a journalist for Portrait, a renowned Chinese feature magazine based in Beijing. While at Portrait 《人物》, she interviewed public figures such as Chinese auteur Jia Zhangke, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Hugo Award-winning author Robert Sawyer, and athletes and adventurers traveling around the world.

After discovering her passion for documentary filmmaking in college, Xin has since worked with established documentarians based in London, Beijing, and Los Angeles. She earned an MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 2017. In the past few years, Xin has directed and produced award-winning fiction and documentary that have screened at festivals such as South by Southwest, Hot Springs, Aspen, and DOC NYC, and featured on platforms such as The New Yorker and Short of the Week. She is a recipient of GFS x Netflix Nonfiction Directing + Producing Fellowship, Film Independent’s Project Involve Producing Fellowship and Visual Communications’ Armed with a Camera Fellowship for Emerging Media Artists. She’s part of the inaugural HBO Max x WBD Animated Shorts Program. She is also a recipient of the Los Angeles Media Fund Fellowship, which is rewarded yearly to a Project Involve Fellow for excellence in producing. Xin is a fellow of the 2023 Sundance Institute Producers Lab and Intensive.
